SICYC Shaggers Rendezvous 2026

Thursday, 27 August to Thursday, 3 September 2026 

This was the 18th Annual Shaggers Rendezvous and as usual was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. We missed the first Rendezvous but made it to the second in 2010 and have been many times since if we are in the Whitsundays on the last weekend in August. 

Shag Islet - spiritual home of all Shaggers

Most of our RQ Cruise North buddies were here along with about 65 other boats anchored off Cape Gloucester Resort. This is the base for activities that included a meet and greet, Masquerade party, Shag Islet party, Nautical Schoolies and Pirate party. There was live music, dancing, fireworks, raffles and auctions.

The weekend raises funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and a highlight was the fundraising breakfast and talk by a local PCFA nurse for the region. This organisation does wonderful work supporting men with prostate cancer and also funding research. SICYC has donated more than $850,000 over the years to PCFA.

We left all of our dressup gear at home, so no embarassing photos to share but we did have a good time in spite of this. It was quite windy the 4 days we were anchored off the resort but luckily SE so we were well protected.

On Sunday afternoon, we motored across to Gloucester Island for 3 nights to wait for the winds to ease. Warren caught some fish while I kayaked and discovered a couple of new birds for my life list. Very relaxing after the last 4 hectic days. 

Bona Bay

On Wednesday, we sailed to Double Bay East then on to Airlie on Thursday in beautiful sailing conditions. Once again we couldn't get a berth in the marinas so after washing the boat and filling our water tank at the public dock, we anchored in Whisper Bay in front of the Marine Rescue building and boat ramp.
